Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10, also written ubiquinone, is a fat-soluble quinone found in cell membranes and synthesised by the body. It is not a vitamin: there is no recognised dietary requirement and no Nutrient Reference Value.

Honest information about Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10 is included in our formulas as a botanical ingredient with traditional wellness heritage. No authorised health claim has been approved for it under EU or GB law, so we share only its identity, origin, dose and documented history — never implied benefits.

Claims held “on hold” pending evaluation are treated here as unauthorised. We will not imply an effect through images, testimonials or suggestive wording either.

Forms and what appears on a label

Two forms are sold: ubiquinone (oxidised) and ubiquinol (reduced). Both are absorbed better from an oil-based softgel than from a dry powder capsule, and both convert into one another in the body.

Where it comes from

Oily fish, organ meats, whole grains.

Dose and how we use it

Included in Serenity Vitality and Masculine Vitality.

Typical daily dose ranges from 100mg to 200mg. Take with a meal containing healthy fats.

What research has — and has not — established

CoQ10 has been studied in cardiovascular populations, statin-associated muscle symptoms and fertility, with trials that vary widely in dose, form and duration. Findings are not consistent enough to have supported an authorised claim in either the EU or GB register.

Cautions and interactions

Generally well tolerated. May interact with warfarin and other vitamin K antagonists — seek advice first. Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding without professional advice.
