Bacopa Monnieri

Bacopa monnieri is a creeping wetland herb, also called brahmi, native to India and other warm regions. Its marker compounds are triterpenoid saponins known as bacosides.

Honest information about Bacopa Monnieri

Bacopa Monnieri is included in our formulas as a botanical ingredient with traditional wellness heritage. No authorised health claim has been approved for it under EU or GB law, so we share only its identity, origin, dose and documented history — never implied benefits.

Claims held “on hold” pending evaluation are treated here as unauthorised. We will not imply an effect through images, testimonials or suggestive wording either.

Forms and what appears on a label

Extracts are standardised to a bacoside percentage, commonly 20–55%. Because bacosides are a family rather than a single molecule, two products at the same percentage can differ in composition.

Where it comes from

Wetlands of India, Australia and the Americas.

Dose and how we use it

A key component of Cognitive Vitality.

Best taken with a meal containing some fat for better absorption.

Documented traditional use

Bacopa is a long-standing item in Ayurvedic materia medica. Recorded as history only.

What research has — and has not — established

Cognitive-outcome trials exist, typically 12 weeks and in small samples, with mixed and modest results and considerable methodological variation. Nothing in that literature is an authorised claim in the EU or GB.

Cautions and interactions

Commonly causes digestive discomfort if taken without food. Not for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Seek advice if you take thyroid medication or sedatives.
