However, although strong social connections may support emotional resilience and slow perceived decline, they cannot reverse physical changes in brain structure.

Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per week, which can be broken down into manageable 30-minute sessions. Combine this with daily cognitive challenges, such as solving a puzzle, reading a non-fiction book, or engaging in an active conversation with a friend. Ensuring your meals are structured around fresh vegetables, legumes, and healthy fats while limiting heavily processed foods will provide your brain with a steady supply of essential nutrients.

While lifestyle interventions like exercise, healthy eating, and mental puzzles are generally safe for the majority of adults, it is vital to consult a GP before making any sudden changes to your physical routine or diet. Some cognitive symptoms can actually stem from underlying, treatable medical issues—such as vitamin B12 deficiencies, thyroid imbalances, or the side effects of certain prescription medications. A thorough medical evaluation can rule out these reversible causes and help tailor a customised care path that ensures any new wellness routine is safe and appropriate for your existing health status.
